Special Times in Special Ed.

Well I have just finished my second week of my special education placement at a new school.  I am working in a resource room that services students young 5's -8th grade.  Needless to say this is quite an adventure.  I am at a new school, with new teachers, new rules, and a new feel.  This was not a change that I wanted to make, but I knew the importance of this transition.  I loved everything about my first student teaching placement, and I was comfortable with my skills as a general education instructor.  Now that I am off to the new school, I am feeling the awkwardness of transition.  I am not as comfortable in the special education area, and I am new to the school so I have been very reserved and observant over the past two weeks. However, now that I am settling in at the new school, I am beginning to take more risks and gain knowledge on how to effectively teach students with disabilities.  I know that God has me here for a reason, and I am not going to allow myself to waste time.  I need to be proactive and make the best of the situation that I am in.  I know that in the end this will make me the best educator that I can be.  Bridging the gap between the special education and regular education is my goal as a teacher. I will keep you updated on the new chapter of this journey!

  1. Good for you, Jesse! I can't wait to hear more! I'm sure you hardly have time to student teach and post on here. Either way, I'll be reading!
